DESCRIPTION / CONDITION / PROVENANCE. These are a beautiful, three piece, brass/bronze and hand painted porcelain mantel clock and four arm candelabra set. There are some maker marks/stamps B. On the bottom of the porcelain. (see photos) The main color of the porcelain is a dark teal, with hand painted stars and a fleur de lis patterns all over.At the top of the clock there is a very ornate putto child, as well as lion heads on either side of the clock and candelabras. The clock has it's original porcelain dial and hands, but is not in working condition. The front and the back do not close properly, (see photos) one of the long screws inside that attaches the front to the back has broke, it will need to be replaced.
Clock appears to have most of it's inside mechanisms, but we are not clock experts, there could be some pieces missing, and we do not have the wind-up key. Candelabra arms are a little loose, will need to be tightened up, and the metal, which we believe is bronze, will need to be polished, is showing signs of age and patina. There are no visual cracks in the porcelain that we can see. The story behind these pieces, are that they belonged to George Wallace, and came out of his estate after he died. They were given to a family member or someone close to him, who held onto them for a while, then recently to a private dealer on consignment.
We were 100% assured these pieces were owned by George Wallace himself, and that they were bought by him a very long time ago. The private dealer we acquired these pieces from did some research into the person whom brought these pieces in for consignment, (which they could not release the name to me) and were able to link George Wallace to them for sure without question.
We do not have any paperwork for these pieces, just the story that was told to us. Once these pieces are repaired and cleaned up, they will be a stunning set.George Wallace , in full George Corley Wallace , also called George C. Wallace , Born August 25, 1919, Clio, Alabama, U.
